"It has flooded Wallsgreen Park and is very deep. Please keep in mind if your kids are out and about in the village.”

The group said it was close to flooding, adding: “It is only one to two inches from spilling on to Station Road.”

It has reported the incident and status to Fife Council’s emergency resilience team.

The group added: “Support is on hand locally from us - please keep the village updated on areas near you which are a risk.”

After several days of heavy rain the B921 Kinglassie Road is closed as far as the Southfield roundabout in Glenrothes, with the Lochty Burn running dangerously high.

Derek Crowe, roads and transportation service manager confirmed that council teams are out and about today and over the weekend to support communities. He said: "We are delivering sandbags to properties that we know are at risk of flooding which includes homes in Kinglassie and across other areas of Fife. “We'll do our best to get sandbags to those in need with the resources we have available."However, householders do have to take responsibility for their own properties too and take reasonable steps to protect their homes."

Worried residents in Kinglassie have reported that when contacting Fife Council about the burn, the service has told them: “that the water is not at the threshold and they can't deliver any sandbags, and for residents to go to a DIY store and buy them.”

Glenrothes West and Kinglassie Councillor Altany Craik said: “I'm disappointed that this is the response that someone has been given, this is not Fife Council's position.

"We are trying to support residents as best we can, there were sandbags delivered yesterday and there are more being delivered today.

"We are trying to get on top of the situation.”
