Virtual event with Val McDermid to thank volunteers at a Fife charity

The effects of loneliness and isolation have never been so prevalent, due to the impact of the coronavirus crisis and this has been felt even more so by people living with sight loss across Fife.
That is why Seescape, a Fife based charity, is thanking its volunteer team during UK Befriending Week this week and bringing them together via a special virtual coffee morning with bestselling, Kirkcaldy born author, Val McDermid, on Wednesday morning.

Volunteers have been supporting Seescape clients affected by sight loss, throughout the pandemic, via regular telephone calls to keep them connected. With everyone being at home for longer periods of time, and face to face meetings suspended, it’s a way for people to stay connected, and receive emotional and social support in the comfort and safety of their home.
Val McDermid said: “We've all rediscovered the value of simple acts of kindness over the past months. Sight loss can be isolating, but the support of friends old and new can make a huge difference to our well-being. I'm delighted to join this wee celebration of the power of befriending.”
A spokesman for Seescape added: “Volunteers are the lifeblood of Seescape, without them, we simply could not support as many people living with sight loss and offer the range of services we do.”
