Watch: Two men in inflatable kayak capsize in the Firth of Forth

The volunteer crew received the call at 3.20pm on Saturday after two men got into difficulty near Inchkeith.

They had been able to use their mobile to contact the coastguard saying they had capsized and had made it to the island, but now required assistance.

The lifeboat arrived under 20 minutes later, finding the two out of the water and clinging to the bottom of a cliff at the west side of the island.

They were successfully moved onto the boat and checked over before being taken to Kinghorn where an ambulance awaited them.

Helm, Mike Chalmers, said: “The two men had set off from Pettycur in an inflatable kayak.

"They had managed to get to the island but then got into difficulty. Fortunately, they managed to get ashore and call for help.

“We quickly located the two casualties and returned them to Kinghorn.

"We then relaunched and returned to Inchkeith to recover the kayak and equipment to prevent it floating away and potentially result in a further call out for us.”

The RNLI has sea safety advice on its website, and Mike continues, ‘If you are planning to take part in water sports this summer, we would always recommend that you are properly equipped with the relevant skills and experience for the conditions.’

If you see anyone or anything in difficulty at the coast, you should call 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
