Work on the development at Raith Grove, Kirkcaldy, started last year.

It was halted on March 24 when coronavirus restrictions came into operation, but now Fife Council has decided to finish the building and hand it over.

Alan Paul, senior property manager. said: ““We’re confident we can get this vital building finished, with workers maintaining social distancing and working safely. “

He said it was very close to completion when restrictions came into force, and that there was an urgent need for accommodation for vulnerable children in the Kingdom.

The house is designed to provide accommodation for children and young people who cannot live at home with their families. It was due to be handed over on April 17.

Added Mr Paul: “We were very close to completing this project. There’s not much left to do, other than internal finishings, decoration and landscaping.

“The building is needed as a matter of urgency to support vulnerable young people and their families who may be in crisis. The pandemic has resulted in limited capacity for these services elsewhere and it’s therefore critical that we get this facility up and running as quickly as possible.”
