Young Fife sisters donate funds to foodbank after starting jewellery business

Two Cults Mill entrepreneurs have donated their profits to a local foodbank after their new online business sold out of homemade jewellery.

Sisters Jessica (6) and Sylvie (4) Harper created their own business, Rainbow and Bee Boutique, after learning about money as part of their home schooling activities.

They sold jewellery they made using a 3D printer and then gave their £25 profit to the Cupar Foodbank.

“The kids have been schooled at home,” explained mum, Catherine. “They to learn about money and how to count it.”

The girls soon wanted to set up their own store, which they did through Facebook, selling jewellery. The page was then shared with their friends and family, who snapped up the products.

The sisters then wrote a lovely letter to the foodbank explaining what they had been doing.

The foodbank team then sent a letter back thanking the girls for their fundraising work.

“It was nice to be able to chat to the kids about the foodbank and the work it does,” said Catherine.

“It’s an amazing charity and the most local one to us. The kids know about it through the work the school does with the foodbank.”

The shop project, which will not be continuing despite the success of their first line, as well as being a different way to learn about money and how shops work, also gave the kids a chance to be creative.

Jessica, who usually attends Pitlessie Primary, and Sylvie, who goes to the Secret Garden Outdoor Nursery, came up with the name and the logo.

“It was a nice project and it was fun,” added Catherine.

“They thought it was amazing to see it online.”
