Pittenweem harbour works finally complete - to tune of £2.1m

The works carried out have included: stabilising the foundation and repairing the various cracks on the sides of the breakwater; levelling the surface of the breakwater; installing scour protection around the foundation of the breakwater; and replacing damaged handrails and a ladder.

The majority of the repair and improvement works are either under the water, under the breakwater itself, or within the structure of the breakwater.

In turn, the only visible signs of the repairs are the patch repairs and crack repairs on both sides of the breakwater, the new concrete slab on the surface of the breakwater, and the new railings.

The cost of the repair and improvement works is in the region of £2.1 million.

The project team was made up of Fife Council (Client & Project Manager), AECOM (Design & Works Supervision) and Farrans Construction (Contractor).

Councillor Pat Callaghan, Fife Council’s executive spokesman for Environment and Transportation, said: “I’m delighted to see that the Pittenweem Harbour Breakwater Repairs are finished, and that the East Pier and Breakwater are open to the public.

“Last year I visited the harbour just as the work was starting and realised the enormity of the task ahead.

“A number issues made completing this project a great challenge.

“I want to thank the project team for all their hard work. Thanks must also go to Pittenweem harbour users and local people for their continued patience and co-operation during the works.”
