Planning sought for new Kirkcaldy Lidl

The company has just submitted a planning application for a new purpose-built store on the site of the former Stagecoach Bus depot at the west end of the Esplanade.

The supermarket revealed in April that it wanted to expand the store in Kirkcaldy and held a public consultation day in May, which was well attended.

Gordon Rafferty, Lidl UK’s regional head of property, said: “We have received an incredible amount of support from the local community.

‘‘We are delighted to announce that we have submitted a planning application to Fife Council.

‘‘If granted it would mark a multi-million pound investment in the area, and the creation of 15 new jobs when the store opens.

‘‘We would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone for their support and feedback so far and look forward to receiving the decision in due course.”

The store, with a glass-fronted façade, will have an increased sales area including an instore bakery, longer-style tills with dual packing facilities, customer toilets, baby changing facilities and more parking as well as better facilities for employees.
