Plans for Silverburn Park relaunch announced

Fife Employment Access Trust (FEAT) is currently in discussion with Fife Council about taking out a long term lease on the park, and is aiming to take control by next spring.

And it is hoping to mark the occasion by relaunching the park and opening a new campsite and allotments. The site would have 25 allotments, 12 tent pitches, eco-pods and facilities for campervans.

The plans are part of a longer term scheme to bring life back to the park.

By 2022, FEAT hopes to have redeveloped the flax mill as a visitor centre, with a restaurant, café, hostel for backpackers and a historical display, a project which has been predicted to cost around £3 million.

For Brian Robertson, chair of FEAT, it’s a moment he’s been eagerly waiting for.

“It is an exciting moment. FEAT have been involved since 2012 when they were selected as preferred bidder, so it’s taken quite some time to get to the point when we’re actually confident about what we want to do.”

FEAT are calling on the Levenmouth public to get involved in the project by joining the Friends of Silverburn. The organisation is a non-formal group, with members asked to volunteer or even come up with ideas for projects themselves.

Mr Robertson said: “We want to turn Silverburn Park back into something the locals can be proud of. We need the local community to help us with their ideas for the park and through volunteering.
