Plea to dig deep and show support for firework display

Firework lovers are reminded to give what they can at the Burntisland bonfire and fireworks display after an increase in cost of over 300 percent over the past two years.

An explosive night has been planned for November 3 when Burntisland Links will be tranformed into a field of colour for one of the most popular family events in the town, a night that is in danger of not continuing if public donations dwindle.

A spokesman from Burntisland Events Group said: “Whilst there is no set charge for entry to the event, a public collection will be taken on the night to help offset the considerable costs involved. The event does receive some funding from Fife Council but the group is heavily dependent on a good response from the public to make up the shortfall. Please donate if you can to the collection buckets.”

The entertainment, music and fun for children of all ages kicks off at 6pm, along with the fairground rides, refreshments and the very popular glo-sticks stall.

Burntisland Pipe Band will arrive with the Summer Queen at 7pm, followed by the lighting of the bonfire and the professional fireworks display provided by 21cc.

Car parking is notoriously difficult so we urge local people to leave the car at home and walk to the event. Those coming from further afield are asked to use public transport whenever possible to reduce congestion on the roads. Organisers remind visitors that no personal fireworks and sparklers will be permitted due to insurance implications.
