A GLENROTHES woman has proved that big really is beautiful by being shortlisted as a finalist in a beauty pageant for plus size women.
Janet Miller (25) fought off competition from thousands of entrants to be chosen as one of 30 finalists in Miss Plus Size International.
The competition final, which is taking place in London on November 23, aims to celebrate the beauty of size and show that women don’t have to be a size eight to enter a beauty contest.
Janet said: “I saw it on television last year and watched the final with the last four girs and thought I would enter it this year.
‘‘ It is for plus size girls and you can’t be any smaller than a size 18 - I am a size 18-20. I applied and was invited to an interview in London in January. There were girls there from America, Norway and there are only two Scottish girls who have made the final 30 - me and a girl from Glasgow.
“I found out I made the final 30 when I saw the announcement on the Miss Plus Size International website and I just couldn’t believe it. I was so excited!
Janet has a bootcamp to attend in June where she will be taught how to strut her stuff on the catwalk as well as take part in filming for the show which will be broadcast on Channel 4.
Janet said: “It’s not about promoting obesity but about showing you don’t have to be a certain size to be beautiful.” A percentage of the ticket sales for the pageant is going to Macmillan Cancer Support.
