Police criticise 'unsubstantiated' social media comment on Kirkcaldy flats operation

Officers, including some in white protective suits, are at a block of flats on the town’s Lismore Avenue for what it said was “a pre-planned policing operation.”

It gave no further details but said there was no risk to the wider public.

There are several police vans at the address which is not taped off.

Fife Police also took social media commentators to task for speculating in the nature of the operation.

It described the reports as “unsubstantiated” adding: “We would also reiterate that whilst we understand that the public may be concerned about police activity, unsubstantiated reports and speculation on social media sites can often be misleading and should not be the first port of call on receiving factual information or reporting incidents.

"If you have any concerns, wish advice or wish to report anything in your area then please contact your local police office through 101.
