Police hunt armed robber after early morning raid

Police in Fife are appealing for witnesses after an early morning armed robbery.

The incident happened around 5.05am this morning at a garage in the High Street area of Cowdenbeath.

The suspect entered the premises and threatened a staff member with a weapon, before making off with a three-figure sum of cash.

He also stole a quantity of cigarettes and made off on foot in the direction of Foulford Road.

The suspect is described as male, of slim build, aged around 20 years old. He had his face covered with a balaclava and was carrying a dark-coloured holdall.

Officers are currently carrying out inquiries and anyone with information is asked to come forward.

Detective Inspector Kelly McEwan from Dunfermline CID said: “Thankfully the shop worker was uninjured but was understandably left shaken.

“We are keen to trace the suspect as soon as possible and would ask anyone with information that can help with our inquiries to get in touch.

“We believe the man arrived and left on foot and would ask anyone who was in the High Street area around 5am this morning and who may have seen any suspicious behaviour to contact us as soon as possible.

“Equally anyone who knows who is responsible, or has information that can help with our investigations, is asked to contact officers immediately.”

Those with information are asked to contact Dunfermline CID via 101, quoting incident number 367 of February 1, or anonymously to Crimestroppers on 0800 555 111.
