Police name man killed in Fife road tragedy

Police have appealed for witnesses after a crash on a Fife road left one man dead and another seriously injured.

He was Mark Kelbie, from Edinburgh.

The 35-year old died after an accident near Upper Largo. Police say they received reports of a car striking a wall and leaving the road.

The silver BMW was believed to have been heading towards Largoward.

Mr Kelbie was taken to Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy, where later died.

A 24-year old male passenger was also taken to hospital with serious injuries. They are not believed to be life threatening.

Mr Kelbie’s family issued a statement through Police Scotland which said: “Mark was a loving son, father and husband who will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. The family are requesting privacy at this difficult time.”

The incident happened around 5.00 a.m. this morning. The road was closed for a number of hours as officers examined the scene -it re-opened at lunchtime.

Sergeant Jim Henry of the Road Policing Unit said: “Our condolences go to Mark’s family and friends and we’re working to establish the full circumstances surrounding this collision.

“We’re asking anyone who believes they may have seen a silver BMW in the area around this time, or anyone with information which can assist with our enquiries, to come forward.”
