POLICE are investigating a spate of deliberate fires in Kinross over the festive period.

Three cars and a wheelie bin were torched near High Street and Old Causeway between 7.30pm and midnight on Friday, December 23.

A charity clothing bin was then set alight in the grounds of Kinross Primary School at around 8.45pm on Monday, December 26.

And on Tuesday evening, three vehicles were set on fire followed by a derelict building on Pier Road at around 8.15pm.

A boy of about 15 or 16 wearing a black jacket with a grey hoodie underneath was seen running off after the third vehicle fire near the Green Hotel at around 6.40pm.

Chief Inspector Bryan Knight of Tayside Police said: “The public of Kinross are a very respectable and close knit community and I am sure they will assist in bringing the person or persons responsible for these crimes to justice.

“We have had extra officers patrolling in the town but we are asking the residents of Kinross to work with us.

“Someone must know who is responsible and parents can be proactive in checking with their children as to who is setting these mindless fires.”

Anyone with information can contact Tayside Police on 0300 111 2222 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
