Police pursuing '˜various lines of enquiry' in Leven murder investigation

The body of 82-year-old Mary Logie was discovered within her home address in Green Gates at around 8pm on Tuesday, January 5.

Since then, a number of new calls have been received and Police Scotland’s Major Investigation Team (MIT) are progressing the information provided as part of their inquiries.

The public appeal is ongoing with officers particularly keen to hear from anyone who remembers seeing anything suspicious in the Green Gates area in the days and hours before Mary was found.

Chief Inspector Adrian Annandale, Local Area Commander for North East Fife, said: “I wish to thank the Leven community who have assisted police since the start of this investigation and shown tremendous support for the work that’s being carried out.

“We have spoken with a number of people who have all been extremely forthcoming and willing to help in any way they can.

“I want to reassure the community that we are doing everything we can to identify whoever is responsible for Mary’s death and are pursuing various lines of inquiry.

“Although such crimes are extremely rare for Leven, Mary’s death has had a significant impact on the public and we are utilising all resources at our disposal to bring her killer to justice as quickly as possible.

“In the meantime, our inquiry is ongoing and we will continue to have high-visibility patrols within the Green Gates area for the time being.

“Again, I ask anyone who has information relevant to the murder inquiry to please contact police immediately on 101. Alternatively, information can be passed anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Meanwhile, Councillor Tom Adams, chairman of the Levenmouth Area Committee, spoke of the shock felt by the community following the murder.

He said: “First and foremost, my thoughts are with the family of Mary Logie at this extremely difficult time.

“It’s tragic and there is no doubt that this despicable crime has left local residents shocked and angry.

“But, as is often the case, the community has come together and is not only supporting one another but also the excellent work being carried out by the police.

“I’m confident this support will continue throughout the course of this investigation and I urge anyone who has information that might assist with this ongoing effort to contact police.”
