Police are now appealing for the assistance of the public in an effort to trace these persons and are interested in identifying three suspects who were seen acting suspiciously in the area during the early hours of the morning.

Detective Sergeant Karen Muirhead of Dunfermline Police Station said: “Our inquiries are at an early stage but we’re very keen to trace three males who were seen nearby in Cowal Place at around 2.30am.

“We believe that another vehicle was involved in this theft and it had a very loud engine.

“Criminals by their very nature tend to be opportunistic and I would remind people not to leave their vehicles unattended while attempting to defrost their car windows.

“It may be tempting to start your car and leave the engine running while the windows clear and you continue to get ready inside in the warm but this offers an opportunity for thieves.

“Even for a very short period, please do not leave your vehicle unlocked while preparing for a journey.”

Those with information should contact police immediately on 101 or anonymously through the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
