Police in north east Fife are warning householders not to buy chainsaws, power washers or generators from doorstep salesmen following complaints about bogus callers.

They say that any item from an unverified source can give rise to safety concerns for those using them.

PC Stuart Bruce, community ward officer based in Cupar, said; “We haven’t verified the origin of these pieces of equipment yet but we do have concerns that they may be imported copies.

“I would strongly urge everyone to be vigilant and not purchase any of these items from the bogus callers. If the deal appears too good to be true then it probably is.”

Police Scotland are urging anyone with information on the activities of bogus workmen to contact them on 101 or report the matter directly to Fife Council Trading Standards Department on 01592 583141.
