Mr Torrance said: “While the country is in chaos, it has been heartening over the last week to hear the inspirational stories about those who are putting others first and to see locally the many examples of thoughtfulness and kind-heartedness gestures – to witness such community spirit at a time of such uncertainty and heightened distress is inspiring.

“Times of crisis often bring out the best in human nature and I am pleased to have seen this happening across Kirkcaldy, and wider Fife.”

Mr Torrance also thanked those who have gone out of their way to help pick up supplies for others.

“From neighbours and friends shopping for the elderly and vulnerable, community groups collecting essentials items and ensuring they reach those most in need, to individuals who have simply been checking in on others and providing a much needed lifeline to those who need it most, I would like to say a huge thank-you to each and every person that has shown such consideration and selflessness.

“Our frontline and healthcare workers are doing a tremendous job looking after our families and loved ones. You can help them by following guidelines and keeping healthy.”

Mr Torrance also advised anyone seeking information to go to the NHS and Scottish Government websites.

“I would urge everyone to follow and respect the advice and guidelines issued by the local authority and Scottish Government.

“It is vital that we all continue to take basic hygiene precautions such as washing hands frequently, not touching our faces and covering noses and mouths with a tissue when coughing or sneezing.

“The first port of call for anyone looking for health advice or information should always be the NHS Inform website www.nhsinform.scot but there are a number of Scottish Government advice lines that can offer up to the minute guidance to individuals and business during this difficult time, these can be found at www.gov.scot. My team and I remain on hand to help you.

“In order to keep my staff as safe as possible my office is closed to the public, but I continue to be contactable by phone, email and post to help you with any query you may have, either personal or business related, so please feel free to contact me at any time.

“I have tremendous respect and appreciation for the efforts of our frontline and healthcare workers who are working so hard to keep us safe. Please stay safe, take the necessary precautions and continue to support each other – by working together we can make a real difference to those most at risk in our communities.”
