Renewables firm Ampyr has submitted a proposal of application notice to Fife Council outlining the plan for the 29.9 megawatt (MW) solar farm south of Lochead landfill site and west of the A823.
The 45 hectare farm - as big as 62 football pitches - would host around 82,500 solar panels up to 3.5 metres tall along with six inverter stations to convert the electricity from DC to AC so it can be fed into the National Grid.

Hide AdAmpyr has created a local subsiduary, Dunfermline Solar Ltd, to operate and manage the site should planning permission be granted. It intends to run the facility for 25 years.
Planning consultant David Bell, acting on behalf of the firms, said: "Over the last 12 months Ampyr Energy has been conducting feasibility studies for the proposed Dunfermline Solar Farm covering a range of technical topics. In addition informal pre-application discussions have been undertaken with planning officials in Fife Council.
"The feasibility studies have been positive and it has now been decided to progress a full planning application to secure planning permission for the proposed development."

Hide AdThe proposal of application notice is not the planning application itself. Rather, it serves as a notice to consult with the public on the plans because of the scale of what is proposed.
To engage with the public Ampyr intends to create an online consultation platform on a new website, DunfermlineSolar.com, in place of a face-to-face town hall event due to coronavirus restrictions.
The webpage will remain live for 12 weeks, during which time locals will be able to view and comment on the proposals. Live video meetings with Ampyr officials are also planned for the tentative dates of February 25 and March 25, at 1pm and 6pm each day.
It will not go live until the proposed consulting measures are approved by Fife Council officers. Community councils, councillors, MPs and MSPs will be contacted separately as statutory consultees to ensure their views are taken on board.
