Comment: Now, more than ever, we must support out frontline community groups

Throughout this long pandemic, they have all gone the extra mile to support families in need, people who are isolated, and those who have struggled.
Even before the formal announcement of tighter new restrictions on Monday, they were prepared to mobilise once more.

Hide AdThis time, they do so with greater knowledge and understanding of the issues lockdown brings, and will, once again, do everything they can to offer not just support, but a human connection at a time when our worlds have shrunk to little more than our own flats and houses.
But there are extraordinary pressures facing those groups who have all stepped into the frontline.
The resources they need to operate have been badly hit by lockdown as fundraisers and campaigns have all been shelved.

Hide AdSo, while they look after us, we must also look out for them.
Lifeline appeals launched in the first lockdown all smashed their targets.
Now, more than ever, they need our support - if you can donate, however small, please do so.
This town has a long and proud history of looking after its own in times of crisis.

Right now, the community groups’ focus is on what they can do for others.
While they do that, let us all do what we can to support them.
