Fife Council reveals over 4700 working days lost to COVID

Over 4,700 days of work time have been lost to coronavirus in Fife Council, new figures have revealed.

Statistics released to the Local Democracy Reporting Service show that the equivalent of 4,710 full working days have been taken off for reasons linked to Covid-19 between January and October this year.

On average, it is equivalent to 15 staff being off every single day having either tested positive for the virus or shown symptoms.

Fife Council has around 17,800 employees.

However, the impact on the council is slight when compared with general illness. More than 135,000 days of sick leave not related to coronavirus were recorded in the same time period - or 28 days of other illnesses for every one day of Covid.

Despite the difficulties caused by Covid-19, Fife Council says it has done all it can to keep essential services going, especially in the run up to the Christmas period.
