Fife launches 70 centres for COVID vaccines

Dunfermline Athletic’s East End Park, the Lochgelly Centre and Cupar's Corn Exchange are among 70 locations being established as vaccine centres to beat Covid-19 in Fife.

The Scottish Government has published a full list of the sites it expects to use as distribution points for the vaccines it has bought from Pfizer-BioNTech, Moderna and Oxford-AstraZeneca.

In Fife, there are two NHS vaccination centres within Queen Margaret Hospital and eleven community vaccine clinics.

A total of 57 local GP practices that will also administer the vaccine to communities.

Fifers are being advised to wait for a letter to arrive from the NHS advising them that they are eligible to get the vaccine. Priority is being given to the over-80s, residents and carers in care homes and frontline health and social care staff.

All Scots over the age of 50, and those between 16-64 with underlying health conditions are also in line to receive the vaccine before the rest of the general population.

Last week Steve Grimmond, chief executive of Fife Council, said preparations for the vaccination roll-out were progressing well.

He told the council's policy and co-ordination committee on Thursday: “Work to accelerate the delivery of the vaccination programme is progressing: infrastructure across Fife for vaccination centres and local delivery are in place.”

The list of community settings includes the following:

Corn Exchange, Cupar

Dunfermline East Church

Dunfermline Athletic Football Club

East Neuk Centre Anstruther

Larick Centre

Lochgelly Centre

Parkgate Centre

Rothes Halls

Randolph Wemyss Memorial Hospital, Buckhaven

St Andrews Community Hospital
