Fife Provost pays tribute on VE Day

The tribute comes on the 75th anniversary of VE Day

Seventy-five years ago today – May 8, 1945 – World War Two came to an end in Europe.

Fife Provost Jim Leishman has paid tribute to all those who made such enormous sacrifices at home and abroad during the conflict.

He recognises the courage and determination of those who saw the country through the dark days of war.

He said: “While the celebrations will now be different to those that were planned due to the coronavirus restrictions, I hope Fifers will join me in taking the opportunity to reflect on the sacrifices made at that time, and celebrate the peace that arrived that day 75 years ago."

Although events across the country have been cancelled due to the pandemic, a host of online virtual alternatives are planned.

There will also be a two minute silence observed at 11am.

Virtual remembrance services and a virtual tribute concert will be broadcast at 11am and noon today at https://www.facebook.com/LegionScotland.
