Due to Covid-19, it cannot hold large events at memorials.

The Royal British Legion announced last week that Kirkcaldy’s parade was cancelled, and only six members will place wreaths at the memorial on November 11.

It is the first in Fife to be postponed as a result of the pandemic.

The council has now announced a new online service on November 8 to give Fifers an opportunity to pay their respects from their own homes.

Councillor Rod Cavanagh, the local authority's armed forces champion, said: “We’ll be streaming a Remembrance Service online which you will be able to watch and take part in.

“Your local church may still be having a special service to mark the occasion, but you will need to book a place in advance as seats will be limited."

Some small remembrance ceremonies will happen in Fife, but Cllr Cavanagh has advised against attending in order to prevent the spread of the virus.

He said: “I would encourage you not to attend these; rather stay at home, watch the services on TV and online and at 11am, stand on your doorstep along with your neighbours and observe the two-minute silence.

"Some of you may also wish to do this on the 11th at 11am.

“Government guidance of course may change, but it’s more likely that restrictions will become stricter."

More details about the online Remembrance service will be provided by Fife Council in due course.
