Former legal office set to become flats in Kirkcaldy town centre

Plans to turn a former solicitor’s office into flats in Kirkcaldy town centre have moved a step closer.

An application to change 38 Hunter Street into four flats has been lodged with Fife Council.

Planning permission was originally granted to James Property Limited to start work converting the former offices of Black & Guild in September 2019.

Given the time that has lapsed, it is now applying for a non material variation which relates to access and a rear extension.

The two-storey building occupies a prominent site on Hunter Street, opposite the former Tesco.

It isn’t listed, and many of of its original features no longer remain.

The transition from office space to residential fits the desire to bring more [people back to live within the town centre.

The nearby former Fife Free Press building in Kirk Wynd is currently being converted into six flats while work is also on-going to create more residential opportunities at the Olympia Arcade.
