Mothballed Fife primary school set to officially close later this year
Councllors have agreed the final step which will see the closure of a mothballed Fife primary school.
Last January, a decision to mothball Kirkton of Largo Primary was taken after pupil numbers dwindled in recent years.

The school, which had a capacity for 75 pupils, had seen its roll steadily decline from 42 pupils in 2013 to zero in 2023.
Members of Fife Council’s Cabinet Committee formally agreed to close it last week, and rezone the catchment area of Lundin Mill Primary to incorporate its current catchment area. They also agreed a recommendation to seek alternative uses for the school site.
Shelagh McLean, head of education, aid: “In making this particular proposal, the education directorate believes being part of a larger school will enable existing pupils to continue to benefit from an enhanced range of curricular experiences providing more opportunities to become successful learners, confident individuals, effective contributors and responsible citizens.”
Councillor David Alexander (Leven, Kennoway and Largo, SNP) was keen to ensure there is a suitable future use of the building.
He said: “Thirty members of the public turned up to the community council to look at alternative uses. I would like that to be looked at favourably. If we work together the best we can to see what we can do.”
The committee was told it could not consider future usage until any proposal has been fully consulted on and a decision made.
