Objectors fail to block McDonald's bid for new restaurant in Fife

McDonald’s is set to open another outlet in Fife.

It got the go-ahead for a new base on Turnstone Road, Dunfermline, next to Tesco and Aldi from Fife Council’s central and west planning committee.

The fast food company’s application had met with objections from the local community.

The new restaurant will be a two storey build and the site will include a drive-thru lane, car parking, play frame and indoor and outdoor seating.

McDonald's also confirmed the proposal would create 65 full and part time jobs.

The central and west planning committee added a condition to ensure that delivery times for the restaurant will be 5:00am and 11pm.

McDonald's will be open from 6am-12pm to align with existing Tesco's operating hours.

A large number of objections were lodged from the local community - most of which related to the impact of the new development in terms of residential amenity and traffic.

Councillors raised various concerns over the application with many complaining about the traffic issues, littering and opening times.

Officers commented that McDdonald's will clear litter in the surrounding area three times a day and will have CCTV cameras to control littering.

Cllr Derek Noble also noted that there is another McDdonald's within a five minute drive away and commented that there is already a Pizza Hut, a Subway and a chip shop within the area.

Councillors Ian Ferguson and James Calder moved for refusal on the grounds of increased traffic reasons, but the application was approved by 11 votes to three.
