Plans lodged to turn former Kirkcaldy care home accommodation into HMO

A planning statement explained that the vacant first floor of the premises on Milton Road were most recently used to provide residential care to the elderly.

It added: “The existing ground floor is used as Abbotsford Care’s headquarters to provide well-established care throughout their 11 Care Homes across Fife.

“Due to the rooms being at first floor level and accessibility issues for elderly people to get up to the room, the first floor accommodation has been vacant for a number of years.

“The client seeks to re-purpose these rooms to provide short term accommodation for some their staff.

“Due to the previous use, the first floor rooms would not require any alteration and could begin being used as HMO accommodation as soon as planning permission is granted.”

Access to the HMO accommodation would be provided through a side entrance which would allow it to stay separate from operations on the ground floor.

The report concluded: “The proposal would allow currently vacant rooms to be re-purposed into a five bed HMO accommodation with no detrimental impact to the existing building and its local surroundings.

“This change would allow Abbotsford care staff members to be provided with accommodation to allow them to continue to provide excellent accommodation and services for older people and adults where both nursing and residential care can be provided for.”

The application will be considered by Fife Council in due course.
