A former charity shop could be reborn as a restaurant under new plans for a busy St Andrews street.

Businessman Behrouz Abolghassem has submitted an application to Fife Council to convert the Sue Ryder unit at 109A South Street into a licensed restaurant.

Detailed drawings included with the application show that Mr Abolghassem intends to seal up the current store entrance and re-open sealed storm doors to the west of the unit.

Inside, he has proposed a small number of tables, window bay and additional bar-style seating accomodating up to 26 people.

Towards the rear, a stockroom will be converted into a kitchen, complete with a ventilation system to remove cooking smells via the front of the unit.

Agents acting for the businessman say the intention is to operate the eatery seven days a week..

Fife Council planners are expected to make a decision on the application before the end of March.
