Wonderworld in St Clair Street has lodged a planning application with Fife Council for permission to install them. The panels would supply energy to the centre with any excess supplied to the national grid.

In a supporting statement, applicant, SNRG Limited said: “The proposals will be of significant environmental benefit as well as economic benefit to the soft play business, supplying electricity directly to the business, in turn helping running costs.”

It also said the panels will be positioned centrally on the roof, away from the roof edges and would be out of public view. Due to the flat roof of the building and the fact that the panels cannot be laid flat, they will be attached to a mounting system to provide the required angle. In its application, it said: “The building lies in a mixed-use area where the proposals would not appear out of place even if they were more visible. However, the siting of the panels centrally on the flat roof behind parapet walling, would ensure no visual impacts arise in this case.“

Councillors will consider the application in due course.
