‘Stick with it’ plea from Fife Council leaders as region faces Level4 lockdown

Fife, along with the rest of mainland Scotland, will move to level four restrictions at 12.01am on December 26 following a one-day easing of rules on Christmas Day.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon said the move was a precautionary one in a bid to contain the spread of a new strain of Covid-19.

In a joint statement, Councillors David Alexander and David Ross, co-leaders, urged residents to follow the rules of level four, which sees all hospitality settings and non-essential shops required to close.

They said: “This is not what anyone would hope for over the Christmas holidays, but the decision has been made and we need to follow the new rules.

"It’s important that we all continue to follow the public health guidance and help reduce the spread of the virus.

"We know it’s tough, particularly at this time of year, but we all have to work together to keep our loved ones safe and healthy. Our hope is that 2021 will bring more positive news but, in the meantime, we have to stick with it."

As well as tighter restrictions, Fifers are being asked to keep children home where possible until January 18, with remote learning expected to be carried out from January 11. The co-leaders say the authority is "geared-up" for this.

Key workers who cannot keep children home will be able to send them to school from January 6 as planned.
