RBS criticised for cutting mobile banking services to four Fife towns

RBS has come under fire after it cut of its mobile banking service in Cupar, Crail, Anstruther and Elie.

The local services have been temporarily ceased due to Fife being in level three of Covid restrictions.

However, due to these same restrictions members of the public are not allowed to travel outside of their local authority.

North East Fife MP Wendy Chamberlain and MSP Willie Rennie have written to RBS to raise their concerns and try find a better solution to the problem.

Willie Rennie said: “This is not good enough. If other mobile and delivery services can operate safely then so should the bank.

“We have already seen the stripping back of banking services with the closure of local branches so this is a further cut that is unacceptable. Banking services are essential so they should be changing this decision.”

Wendy Chamberlain added: “This places those doing their best to follow all the rules and advice in a very difficult position.

“Unable to travel to the bank and their mobile bank service not coming to them, what other option do they have?

“Shops aren’t made to shut under these restrictions, so I hope RBS can find a solution that doesn’t remove local people’s ability to do their banking.”
