Support community council or it may fold

The group held its EGM at the beginning of August following an earlier poor attendance from both local residents and elected members.

And while chairman David Mole said the turnout for last month’s meeting saw a greater spread of attendees, attendance was still poor.

Because of this, members decided to have a further and final EGM at the beginning of next month to give the community a last chance to support the group, or see it lost completely.

Mr Mole told the Mail: “We are demoralised by getting virtually no support.

“The fact is, people will have a beef and complain about things going on, but they won’t come along to the meetings.

“If people want a community council, they need to come along and support us.”

David, who has been a member since 2005 – just months after this latest version of the group was formed in October 2004 – said the community council is a vital point of information for local residents.

“Without us, no-one would get any updates on planning in the town, there would be no say in street naming, nothing would be done about overgrown trees in the den.

“We really do not want to see the community council fold because it is a conduit between Fife Council and the local community.

“We must get support from the community, ideas for community projects and, ideally, some new members, especially a secretary.

“If this is not forthcoming then the community council will cease to exist.”

Local councillor David Alexander urged people to get involved.

“A community council can do a power of good. It’s all about the level of local support it is given. I would urge people to come forward and participate. There may well be some big decisions to be taken in the future as budgets are squeezed. At the same time there are potential opportunities to develop Kennoway. The more people who are involved in the community the better.”
