Shoppers can pick up some unique festive gifts at the launch of a Christmas pop-up gallery in Kirkcaldy High Street this weekend.
Susan McGill Designs has organised the event and invited eight local artists to show their items from tomorrow (Friday).
They include an eclectic mix of beautiful original paintings, ceramics, glass, jewellery, linocuts, prints and crafts.
Susan will also showcase her products with new pieces added to the range for the Christmas 2013 season.
Susan and her sister Anna McKenzie have been running the winter pop-up gallery from Susan’s home in Kirkcaldy for over 10 years, but this year they were lucky enough to be offered the shop front in the town’s east end at 266 High Street, by the partners of Harper Bell Dental Practice.
Anna said: “Susan is a successful ceramic artist based in Kirkcaldy.
“Her ceramics are wheel thrown and hand painted with bold black and white designs and traditional Scottish verses and sayings.
‘‘Her work is eagerly anticipated and collected by clients who attend her Christmas show and Pittenweem Arts Festival, which are her two biggest shows of the year.
“Most of the sayings and verses I use in my pottery and design work are strongly influenced by my family and the community I live in.
‘‘The ceramics are definitely ‘conversation pieces’. People have a real place in their hearts for the likes of ‘The Three Craws’ verse and there is always a childhood memory attached.”
“Susan and I have been working together to use some of her beautiful drawings in other design pieces and we now have a range of work shown under the name, Susan McGill Designs.
“These pieces include trays, prints, scarves, cards and other more unusual items such as our pinny and the beautiful and romantic pillowcases which feature the words of Rabbie Burns: ‘And I will luve thee still, my dear, Till a’ the seas gang dry’.”
Anna added: “It has proved to be a great venue for showing off Susan’s ceramics and the invited artists who are a feature of these pop-up galleries.”
The show opens at 266 High St, Kirkcaldy tomorrow (Friday) from 6.00 p.m. until 9.00 p.m. then everyday until November 7 from 10.00 a.m. – 5.00 p.m. including Sunday.
