A new seven-day a week Post Office service is being delivered to the people of East Wemyss.

The Post Office is opening a new local facility at the SPAR store in Main Road.

The service, which launches at lunchtime on February 23, will be provided at a combination counter in the store, where the Post Office terminal will sit alongside the till.

Customers can access a wide range of Post Office and mails services, including special delivery, local collect, home shopping returns, online banking cash deposits and withdrawals.

Post Office services will be available during the store’s opening hours – 6am to 10pm, seven days a week – so customers can visit when it is most convenient.

Other services include withdrawals using a Post Office Card Account and sending funds abroad using Moneygram, while customers can pay bills, pre-order travel money, apply for travel insurance and top up mobile phones.

The present East Wemyss post office, at 55 Main Road, will close at 1pm on February 23 and services will transfer 320 metres or so along the road to the new branch at SPAR. Access will be level with a wide automatic door at the entrance. Internally, there will be a hearing loop and space for wheelchair users.

Roadside parking is available directly outside the store.

Suzanne Richardson, Post Office district manager, said: “We are making it easier for customers to get their cash, send and collect their mail and do their banking because we know how important these services are to local residents. We are confident this vibrant new-style Post Office at the heart of the community will be popular.”

Councillor Andrew Rodger hoped the post office could also provide a little extra personal touch, such as helping people fill in forms or enquiring if someone failed to appear to collect their pension.
