A Kirkcaldy woman is taking part in this year’s London Marathon to raise funds for the Scottish SPCA, with a little help from her dog.
Fiona Donnachie (24) is currently training for the gruelling 26.2 mile event and chocolate lab Milly has been keeping her company.
I’ve been really fortunate that my friends and family have been very generous with their sponsorship, which keeps me going when I don’t feel like going out runningFiona Donnachie
Fiona said “Training is hard and takes up a lot of my time but Milly keeps me going on the shorter runs.
“She also trained with my dad who ran the marathon two years ago and loves it.
“Milly is the fittest dog in Fife and it’s a shame I can’t take her with me on the day.”
Fiona previously worked for the Scottish SPCA so deciding which charity to support was easy.
She said, “As I used to work for the society I saw first-hand the great work they do.
“It’s also good to be able to support a Scottish charity doing fantastic work which sometimes goes un-noticed.
“When my dad ran the London Marathon he raised funds for the Scottish SPCA too so it’s brilliant I can raise even more money for them.
“I’ve been really fortunate that my friends and family have been very generous with their sponsorship, which keeps me going when I don’t feel like going out running.”
The London marathon, which celebrates its 35th anniversary this year, takes place on Sunday, April 26.
“I never thought I would be able to do a marathon but now it’s so close I’m actually getting excited for the big day as all the training I’ve been doing will finally be worth it.
“I’m also looking forward to crossing that finishing line and opening a bottle of champagne!”
