Praise for fly-on-wall documentary The Council

The three-part series sparked a huge response on social media with many viewers praising the frontline staff featured working in the community.

It followed housing officers tackling homes which had been left filled with debris and highlighted the work being done to improve precincts in Glenrothes.

It also featured an occupational therapist trying to find a new home for Davey, from Methil, who had been trapped in an upstairs flat for a year.

The 60-year old qualified self-confessed Motorhead fan emerged as one of the stars of the first show, declaring himself ‘‘chuffed tae bits’’ as he was shown his new home.

Narrated by Glenrothes-born actor, Dougray Scott, it was billed as an insight into the challenges faced by all local authorities as they face up to massive budget cuts.

The employees spoke freely about the impact on their jobs as departments had to find more savings, and it also underlined the vital role services played supporting many vulnerable people.

The film crew spent months earlier this year following them as they went about their duties.

Steve Grimmond, chief executive, said the documentary is not only about Fife, it was about any and all councils.

“We agreed to take part in this documentary in the hope that we could give residents a greater insight into the council and help them understand the difficult budget decisions which we are all facing,” Mr Grimmond explained.

“It looks at the challenges and pressures local councils are facing with greater demand for services and budgets increasingly squeezed.

“The dedication and commitment of our staff to continue to provide the best service for the people of Fife shines through in every episode of the show.”

The second episode is shown on BBC1 Scotland at 9pm on December 14.
