Police in Glenrothes are hunting a man who viciously assaulted a heavily pregnant woman while trying to steal her handbag.

They have appealed for witnesses to the assault, which happened in broad daylight on Boblingen Way, Glenrothes, just after noon on Tuesday, 4 October.

The 32 year-old woman was walking towards the Matalan store when a young man, slim and about six foot tall wearing black jogging trousers, a black zipped hooded top and white trainers and riding a red BMX bike with black spokes, tried to grab her bag.

The woman resisted and she was then hit across the face, before the man cycled off in the direction of the Matalan store.

Detective Constable Lynsey Johnston, who is leading the investigation, said: “This was a particularly nasty and brutal attack on a defenceless woman. Although the attack was witnessed by a woman walking nearby, there were two other women walking a dog in the vicinity at the time, and we are keen to talk to them.

“I would appeal for anyone who was in the area at the time, or recognises the description of the attacker, to get in touch with us, either directly to us on 0845 600 5702 or through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
