Councillors at the Glenrothes area committee waved through the change following a site visit to the stretch of B9130 in question last month and after consulting with residents and the town’s community council who welcomed the reduction.

The need for the extension follows the approval of a residential housing development which requires access from the B9130.

A report to councillors by Ian B Smith, traffic management - mid Fife, said the reduction was necessary to maintain road user safety.

The proposal was unanimously agreed, and councillor Kay Morrison told the committee: “This speed reduction is reasonable warranted and welcome”
