Staff at north east Fife vintage specialists Scaramanga are celebrating striking Hollywood gold again – with a role supplying props to new blockbuster Pan.
The company has supplied props to the new Disney blockbuster which opens in the UK today (Friday).
Last year the Cupar-based firm scored a treasured role in the movie when one of the film’s props buyers came to them for a set of vintage iron padlocks to be used as action props.
And their goods have made the final cut!
The firm’s staff are celebrating seeing their items used on-screen to lock a dungeon door in a scene featuring Levi Miller as title character Peter.
Carl Morenikeji, owner, said: “I caught one of the preview screenings last weekend and it shivered my timbers to see our padlocks used on the big screen!’’
Now the firm is marking the film launch with a special Pan-themed display in their St Andrews store.
Supplying Tinseltown with hard-to-find authentic vintage items is not new to the award-winning Fife firm.
Previous Hollywood customers include Disney fantasy Maleficent starring Angelia Jolie – it provided more than 100 medieval-looking pieces including decorated vintage trunks, chests and homewares.
It also delivered antique brass padlocks to the Lord Of The Rings blockbuster, The Hobbit, for in Bilbo’s house.
The firm also supplied one of its iconic leather bags to 2014 Tom Cruise movie Edge of Tomorrow, but it didn’t make it onto the big screen.
The company is also used as a supplier of vintage props for TV shows including Strictly Come Dancing and 60 Minute Makeover.
Carl said: “Given our reputation as a specialist in authentic vintage items, we were naturally delighted, if not entirely surprised, that they came to us for authentic vintage padlocks to fit in with the Victorian Gothic style of the movie.
“We’re hoping more fans of authentic vintage pirate-style items, like treasure chests and trunks – of which we have scores in stock at any time – will come to us as a result.
“Peter Pan is a classic children’s story.
‘‘I’m looking forward to taking my own children to see it and find out if our padlocks are used by one of the main characters.”
The new movie tells the story of how orphan Peter is transported to Neverland while searching for his mother but then teams up with James Hook and gets involved in some swashbuckling adventures.
Sure to hook the attention of children, and adults, worldwide, it will bring classic Victorian styles back into prominence.
Movie and vintage fans can see the full range of vintage homewares, including many with the same style as those seen in the Neverland sequences of the movie, on Scaramanga’s website at scaramangashop.co.uk
