AMBITIOUS plans for the former high school site in Kinross are to be the subject of a public meeting to be held later this month.

House builder Persimmon Homes hope to build around 90 houses on the 2.95 hectare site, which has lain vacant since the opening of the £26 million Loch Leven Community Campus in 2009.

The public consultation is a requirement of the ‘proposal of application’ notice that Permissom Homes have lodged with Perth and Kinross Council.

It will take the form of a four-hour drop-in event during which members of the public can view the plans and ask questions.

Comment cards will also be available for the use of the developer and are not official representations to the local authority.

The high school site has had a troubled history since supermarket chain Sainsbury’s withdrew a multi-million pound offer in 2010, with the former school building becoming become a target for vandals and thieves.

Proceeds from the sale will be used to offset the cost of the new campus, built through a public private initiative.

The consultation event will be held at Loch Leven Community Campus between 4pm and 8pm on May 21.
