Residents in Kirkcaldy, Burntisland and the Wemyss area have been warned about a con man who has been going door-to-door in the towns and villages over the past week pretending to be collecting for children’s Christmas treats.

The well-dressed man is reported to have knocked on doors in Kirkcaldy last week and Coaltown of Wemyss today selling calendars to raise money for presents for youngsters at Starley Hall School in Burntisland who are unable to go home for the festive season.

However the school told the Press it has no links with the man.

A senior care worker at the school, which caters for children with additional behavioural needs, said: “The person who is going door-to-door has absolutely no association with Starley Hall School. The school would not engage in this kind of activity and the matter has been referred to the police.”

The man is described as being “polite and well dressed” and wearing a suit. When several people asked him for identification, he told them that his wife who is a shift worker, had it.

Police in Kirkcaldy said they had not received any complaints from the public and urged anyone who is approached by the man to contact them.
