Social media was flooded last night and this morning (Tuesday, September 29) with stunning images of the sunset and sunrise over north east Fife.

One of the most dramatic was captured from the end of the pier at St Andrews, with the town, and its famous landmark Cathedral and St Rule’s Tower standing out against a backdrop of orange, yellow, red and purple.

It was taken by Spencer Bentley, a Canadian student working towards his PhD at the University of St Andrews.

“The pier is one of my favourite places to take pictures of St Andrews,” said Spencer.

“My wife Lauren and I were out a bit after the best part of the sunset and just caught the tail end of it. It was even better 15 minutes before this shot.”
