The Ardgowan Hotel in St Andrews has enjoyed a profitable year.

A St Andrews hotel business has recorded record profits for the year ending March 31, 2014.

And Playfair Hotels Ltd, owners of Ardgowan Hotel and Playfair’s Restaurant and Steakhouse, has made a strong start to 2014-15, with sales up a further 4.5 per cent.

Dr Roy McLachlan, managing director, said: “Occupancy is around 96 per cent in the Ardgowan Hotel for the summer, and Playfairs has been very busy with both local and tourist diners. Graduation time was a major success. It is encouraging to see a younger generation of diners increasingly appreciative of the high quality, freshly prepared food used throughout the menu.”

Dr McLachlan added he and his staff were hoping to continue this strong performance through the latter part of the year. Events, including the Ryder Cup, Edinburgh Festival, Pittenweem Arts Festival and the Dunhill in September are just a few of the attractions bringing in visitors.

“We are also looking forward to The Open Championship in July next year and are excited to welcome all of the golfers and golf enthusiasts who will be visiting St Andrews during this exciting event.” said Dr McLachlan.

“We are fully booked and we are virtually full for The Open at Carnoustie in 2018.”
