Glenrothes area committee councillors have decided to name the replacement Fife Institute after a councillor who passed away.

The new Fife Institute, when it has been built, will be called the Michael Woods Sports Centre, after the former councillor.

Committee members made the decision against a public consultation which showed the biggest support was for the name the Glenrothes Sports and Leisure Centre.

Mr Woods, the late SNP councillor was active in the campaign to save the ‘Insty’ when it was feared it could close.

43 per cent of those who responded to the naming consultation favoured Glenrothes Sports and Leisure Centre and 22 per cent favoured naming the centre after Michael Woods.
