La Gondola, Kirkcaldy
If Italian food is your bag then you can do worse than head along to La Gondola restaurant in Kirkcaldy.
Situated across from the Harbour, the restaurant is welcoming with friendly staff who are ready with a smile as soon as you walk in.
Seated with drinks in hand, I was ready to peruse the extensive menu on offer - and there is a lot to choose from!
From pasta dishes to pizzas, there is something to suit everyone’s taste.
For a starter I went with the pan fried squid, while my fellow diner tucked into pizza bread with cheese.
My calamari diavola, to give it its proper name, was cooked with whole garlic, fresh rosemary and chilli and was served with chopped tomatoes and it looked as good as it tasted.
The pizza bread covered the whole plate and was a meal in itself and you couldn’t fault it.
Next up was the main course. As much as I love Italian food, I wanted something a little bit different so opted for pan-fried chicken breast while my campanion went with the calzone.
My chicken was lovely and tender with nice and crispy breadcrumbs. It was served with roast potatoes and green beans.
The calzone was stuffed full of ham, spicy sausage and mushrooms and was delicious according to my dining buddy.
After a short rest, we decided to order some dessert, because it would be rude not to!
Feeling quite full after my two courses, I chose orange sorbet. It was served in a frozen orange which looked fantastic. And it tasted even better. Nice and fruity and refreshing.
My lovely fellow diner chose the tiramisu which was a good helping and tasted great.
I stole a spoonful, and although I’m not usually a fan of this particular dessert, it really was good. Not too heavy or sweet.
All in all, we both had an enjoyable evening.
The food was good and the service was exactly as it should be – friendly and welcoming.
If you are after a nice quiet meal with friends, family or partner than I’d recommend going along to La Gondola – you won’t be dissapointed.
