43 Main Street, Milton of Balgonie
If good food in lovely surroundings is what you are after, then 43 Main Street will be right up your alley.
The bistro hasn’t been open that long and what a difference to what it previously was – the Fife Arms.
I was really looking forward to my meal after seeing what the place had to offer on its website.
As well as good food, I think the atmosphere and staff help make a good night and at 43 Main Street, I was given such a warm welcome by owners Steven and Maggie that it made me feel instantly at home in the beautifully decorated restuarant.
For my starter, I opted for the tempura prawns with homemade chili dip, while my dining partner went with the beef haslet wrapped in smokey bacon with winter berry chutney and toast.
When the plates arrived, they didn’t disappoint. Not only did they taste like heaven, but the presentation of both dishes was fantastic.
For the main courses, I chose the sage stuffed chicken roulade which came wrapped in smokey bacon with a maple roasted butternut squash and black pudding beignets, while my fellow diner went with the steak with a peppercorn sauce.
We were given fries and onion rings the size of a saucer as side dishes.
Again, you couldn’t fault the dishes. They tasted amazing and were beautifully set out on the plate.
The chicken was lovely and juicy and the unusual flavour of maple syrup complemented the dish well.
After the starter and mains, we decided to share a dessert as we were quite stuffed!
I chose the homemade sticky toffee pudding, with butterscotch sauce and home made vanilla ice cream.
This is my favourite dessert, and whenever I am eating out, I always choose it and I have to say that it was definitely one of the best that I’ve had. It wasn’t too sweet and the home made ice cream really was delicious and had a lovely creamy texture to it.
Having a nice quiet meal at 43 Main Street really was a treat and somewhere that you would return to again to try every option on the menu, although you are sure to discover your favourite dish and have that time and time again.
