Review: Country dining in the middle of town

Dunnikier House Hotel, Dunnikier Park, Kirkcaldy

If you are looking for a quiet place to have a good meal with fantastic views, then look no further than the Dunnikier Hotel in Kirkcaldy.

We were seated right at the window of the beautiful dining room which offered a great view of the park and right across the Forth.

We tore ourselves away from the view long enough to have a look at the menu after the waitress brought over our drinks.

It featured a great selection of food to suit everybody’s tastes.

After much thought I went with the chicken liver parfait while my fellow lovely diner chose the soup of the day which was split pea.

When the food arrived, it was beautifully presented and more importantly, tasted delicious.

The parfait was served with oatcakes and lovely fresh salad with dressing, while the soup came with warm, soft and fresh bread.

A great start to the evening.

The service was quick so it wasn’t long before our main course arrived.

My companion opted for the steak and ale pie which was accompanied with baby potatoes and seasonal veg.

I decided to go with the scampi tails which came with home made chips, salad and home made tartar sauce.

I love scampi, in fact it is one of my favourite dishes to order when I’m out and this scampi really was delicious and tasted so fresh.

It was also great to see proper home made chips on the plate instead of frozen, which made the food that much better.

My dining buddy thoroughly enjoyed the steak pie with the meat being nice and tender and the potatoes cooked to perfection.

Despite the dessert menu offering a great selection of mouth watering treats we decided to forgo a third course since we we so full.

The staff were open and friendly and the service was first class - nothing was too much trouble for them and service really came with a smile.

The Dunnikier hotel holds many benefits for choosing it for eating out.

Away from the town centre, its quiet surroundings makes for a perfect cosy night out for couples or for families.

I’d really recommend booking a table.
