Review: New location & same great food ...

Robertsons, Tolbooth Street, Kirkcaldy

Having moved from its small cosy premises in Hunter Street, Robertson’s continues to thrive at its Tolbooth Street location.

The premises may have changed but the great service and high quality of food remains.

From the moment you open the door you are given a warm welcome by the staff.

And with the cafe serving breakfasts (cooked breakfast until noon), lunch and afternoon tea there’s plenty of choice whatever time of day you happen to be visiting.

For myself and my dining partner it was lunchtime that we visited. Looking at the menu there was a wide range of light lunch choices, including sandwiches, salads, paninis, wraps and baked potatoes, all available with a variety of fillings.

Our host, owner Gill Robertson, also informed us the soup of the day was carrot and corriander.

And it was the soup that I opted for, together with a ham and cheese toastie as part of a special lunchtime offer.

The soup was delicious. Homemade, thick and creamy. Perfect for warming up on a cold day.

Served alongside it was a simple - yet satisfying - cheese and ham toastie that was the ideal accompaniment.

My dining companion for the day opted for the Robertson’s Rancho panini, served with crisps on the side.

The cafe’s speciality filling features chicken, mixed pepper, BBQ sauce and mayo.

My friend was pleased with his choice, enjoying the refreshing flavours.

We both enjoyed hot drinks - of which there is a large choice of teas and coffees - with our meal.

Although the lunch left us satisfied, having seen the choice of treats at the counter it would have been rude not to sample some of the baking.

After all the Robertson’s staff make the tray bakes and cakes on the premises.

I chose the white chocolate and raspberry tiffin which was spot on for my sweet tooth. A fantastic combination of flavours and a great way to round off the meal.

It would also have been a perfect mid morning or afternoon snack with a good cup of tea.

Feedback from my companion was that the regular tiffin was also a big hit.
