Two men from Levenmouth are taking to the saddle again to encourage others to get on their bikes and raise money for Armed Forces veterans.

Keen cyclists Sandy Cunningham and Thomas Bremner joined BBC Scotland anchor Jackie Bird to launch Cycling 4 Comrades, the new Poppy Scotland cycling team.

Cycling 4 Comrades aims to bring together cyclists of all ages and abilities who want to raise funds for veterans through the sport they love. Supporters can take advantage of charity assured places at a number of 2014 cycling events to raise funds for Poppyscotland and also take part in other sponsored events.

Sandy (46) and Thomas (40) are already heavily involved with the charity, last year raising £25,000 through a 750-mile cycle from Leven to the Menin Gate in Belgium, where they took part in the Last Post ceremony.

“It was a real privilege for myself and Thomas to be asked along to take part in this launch,” said Sandy. “Because the campaign is so new, we’re just taking it as it comes, but I know Poppyscotland is organising a big cycling sportive later this year in the Scottish Borders.

“Cycling is a big thing now and although cycling 100 miles might sound hard, it’s actually really enjoyable and you get a real sense of comradeship.”

Sandy and Thomas are hoping to inspire Levenmouth locals to get involved with the campaign, and Sandy gave thanks to all who have supported them so far on their past events.

Cycling 4 Comrades was founded by a fellow Fifer, Richard Clark who served with the Black Watch for 12 years and was awarded the Military Cross for bravery in Afghanistan.

“It can be difficult leaving the Forces and adjusting to civilian life,” said Richard. “That’s where organisations like Poppyscotland come in.

“I wanted to raise awareness of its work and, as someone who is passionate about cycling, I knew this was how I could help. If you feel part of something you will do well and that’s what I want people to feel when they join Cycling 4 Comrades.”

Speaking at the launch, Jackie said: “Scotland has many cycling routes, as well as stunning scenery, and
